On November 1, 2021, Better Bin Compost, a Cincinnati-based composting service, joined forces with CompostNow Inc, a Raleigh-based compost services company. Combining resources, energy, and passions allows the business to expand composting efforts in Cincinnati and enables the ability to service more households, multi-family communities, and offices.
Since joining forces in November of 2021, CompostNow has already expanded their compost service area to include the Amberley Village, Kenwood, Mariemont, Madeira, Madisonville, North Avondale, Northside, Pleasant Ridge, and St. Bernard neighborhoods.
This is in addition to their current compost service area of Wyoming, North College Hill, Clifton, Columbia Tusculum, Hyde Park, Mount Lookout, Oakley, Norwood, Over-the-Rhine, East Walnut Hills, Walnut Hills, and Mt. Adams.
How did we get here?
CompostNow, based in Raleigh, was founded in 2011 by Matt Rostetter, who was joined in 2012 by co-founders Justin Senkbeil and Dominique Bischof.
“We’re tackling the huge challenge of food waste and the loss of healthy soil, and it will take many different approaches to solve it,” says Justin Senkbeil, CEO of CompostNow. “I am excited to combine the momentum and energy of our organizations to further our collective mission of making our communities more compostable.”
Better Bin Compost, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, was founded in 2019 by Olivia Wilmink who will be joining the CompostNow team as a Product Manager and UX/UI Designer.
“CompostNow understands and values the uniqueness of each community they serve, and operates with a clear mission and people-first mindset,” says Olivia Wilmink, CEO Better Bin Compost. “Their willingness and ability to get things done, combined with their expertise in the industry, makes me excited to dig in alongside this team and continue our efforts of recycling food waste and rebuilding the health of our soil.”
What's next?
The combined business looks to both rapidly expand the number of households and offices they service in Cincinnati and increase outreach, education, and advocacy in the community.
The ultimate goal is to divert as much food waste from landfills as possible and help local farms and gardens build the best possible soils.
